This episode opens with a portrayal of King David crying out to God for mercy. He had committed adultery with Bathsheba and then had her husband killed to hide it. Now, the son they conceived together was dying—and the only thing David could do about it was fast and pray. Let’s rewatch this scene [00:25-2:00 min].

What do you think about the way David repents?
How do you view and respond to sin in your own life?
Have you ever felt convicted about a sin? What did you do with that conviction?

David’s realisation of his sin leads him to turn back to God, “What is needed is my repentance.”

The choices he made didn’t just affect him and Bathsheba. They rippled out, hurting others and even damaging God’s reputation. David dishonoured the Lord so deeply by what he had done that, as a result, the child born to him would not survive (2 Samuel 12:14).

David wrote about his repentance in a psalm. Let’s read Psalm 51.

Psalm 51

1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.

2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.

5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.

7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.

9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.

14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.

15 Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.

16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.

17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.

18 May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.

19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous, in burnt offerings offered whole; then bulls will be offered on your altar.

It’s often the small decisions that shape the direction of our hearts. Every day, we have the choice to turn our eyes toward Jesus and follow his ways. If you wake up one day and realise you’re walking in the wrong direction, the invitation is open: Make a 180, confess what you did wrong and step back onto his path.

Forgiveness doesn’t always remove the consequences of our choices, but it does restore our relationship with God. It allows us to walk in freedom again.

In this episode, we see Salome, the mother of James and John, trying to secure a special place for her sons in Jesus’ kingdom. After hearing that Simon received a new name, she feels her sons deserve the same recognition and blessing too. In her eyes, they’ve done more for Jesus than Simon ever did.

Have you ever felt like you deserved something because of what you did for Jesus?
How do you respond when others receive opportunities, recognition or blessings you thought should be yours?

Salome recalls Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount, “Ask and it will be given to you …” She urges her sons to ask for a place of honour beside Jesus. But Zebedee responds wisely to Salome’s interpretation of Jesus’ words, explaining that he thinks Jesus meant when you are seeking first the kingdom of God.

The Bible reminds us that God is just. Entitlement often flows from pride. Pride leads us to treat grace as something we earn rather than as a gift. But prayer is not about getting all we want. It is about aligning our hearts with God’s will. And we can trust that our Father loves to give his children what is truly good. Let’s read Matthew 20:20-28 and Philippians 2:1-4.

Each day we face the tension between our own desires and God’s will. It’s easy to compare our journey with others or to feel we deserve more. Yet Jesus invites us to look at him and bring our longings to him, so he can reshape them to reflect the Father’s heart.

How can you bring your needs and desires to God in prayer, while still surrendering them to his will?
What steps can you take to align your desires with God’s will?
How can you practise humility and see grace as a gift, not a right?
What is one way you can choose to serve someone else rather than serving yourself in the next week?

Close with a prayer of surrender: inviting Jesus to purify your desires and teach you to live humbly with others as he did.

In this episode, both David and Uzziah choose to worship God in the middle of pain and rejection. David has just lost his son despite his many prayers. Uzziah has been kicked out of the temple for confessing that Jesus is the Son of God. Thomas sees Ramah getting killed and has no idea why Jesus doesn’t step in to save her.

Bathsheba watches David and asks, “And you still worship?” David answers: “I do. Through sorrow, joy and sorrow again. This is the meaning of faith” [4:45-5:50 min].

In the midst of real life, with its joys and sorrows, victories and losses, David wrote many songs. “The Lord is my Shepherd” is one of them. Let’s read Psalm 23.

Worship in hard times is not about pretending everything is fine but about choosing to trust God’s presence and goodness even when we don’t understand. It is saying, like David, “And still I worship.”

In this episode, Jesus meets a man who has been blind since birth. In The Chosen, he’s called Uzziah. The disciples ask, “Why is he blind? Was it because of his own sin? Or his parents’ sin?”

What is Jesus’ response?
What do you think he means?
Have you ever wondered if something happened in your life because of sin?

The story of Uzziah is told in the Gospel of John. After Jesus heals him from his blindness, everyone wants to know what happened. The Pharisees keep pressing him with questions he can’t answer. Uzziah doesn’t know Jesus well yet, and he doesn’t see the whole picture. But he stays with what he does know, “One thing I know: I was blind, and now I see.” Let’s read John 9:1-41.

John 9:1-41

1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth.

2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.

5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes.

7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

8 His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?”

9 Some claimed that he was. Others said, “No, he only looks like him.” But he himself insisted, “I am the man.”

10 “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.

11 He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”

12 “Where is this man?” they asked him. “I don’t know,” he said.

13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.

14 Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath.

15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.”

16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So they were divided.

17 Then they turned again to the blind man, “What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened.” The man replied, “He is a prophet.”

18 They still did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they sent for the man’s parents.

19 “Is this your son?” they asked. “Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?”

20 “We know he is our son,” the parents answered, “and we know he was born blind.

21 But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself.”

22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue.

23 That was why his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”

24 A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. “Give glory to God by telling the truth,” they said. “We know this man is a sinner.”

25 He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”

26 Then they asked him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

27 He answered, “I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?”

28 Then they hurled insults at him and said, “You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses!

29 We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from.”

30 The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.

31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.

32 Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind.

33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

34 To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.

35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”

36 “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”

37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”

38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.

39 Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”

40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”

41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

What stands out to you in this story?
Why do you think Uzziah keeps repeating only his personal experience? What does that teach us about giving testimony?

Uzziah doesn’t fully understand who Jesus is, but he’s honest and sticks to his own experience. He doesn’t give a polished theology lesson. He simply shares what he has lived.

How can this example shape the way you share your story with people around you?
Uzziah’s honest testimony got him kicked out of the temple. Have you ever been in a situation where sharing your story had a big impact on your life? What happened?
How can you trust God today to guide your steps so that his work will be displayed through your life?

Every story of faith matters, big or small. God works through your personal stories to show his love and truth to others.
